東京 Tokyo - Akihabara 秋葉原

Akihabara is a district in central Tokyo that is famous for its many electronics shops as well as many stores and establishments devoted toanime and manga.

Although I cannot say I understand much about electronic, the place was a must-visit on our bucket list in Tokyo and it was so impressive to see the hundreds of electronics shops, ranging from tiny one man stalls specializing in a particular electronic component to large electronics retailers, line the main Chuo Dori street and the crowded side streets around Akihabara. You can find there every technological gadget you can possibly imagine, from computers to gaming consoles and vacuums to DVDs, at reasonable prices.

I was also attracted by the place for it renowned anime culture, the place also being referred to as the "Gamer's Mecca", with stores specializing in anime, manga, retro video games, and figurines (often posing in extremely erotic poses - what Japanese fantasies are made of I guess :)

One of my favorite places had to be the 'old Nintendo video games' stores. I'm a fan and still own the gameboy and Super Nintendo of my childhood. In the store you could actually find an endless amount of games from Donkey Kong to super mario kart, all odl school! I felt like a child in a candy shop!!

While wandering around, you can also find maid cafes where waitresses dress up and act like maids or anime characters. Exactly the kind of experience you expect to have when visiting Tokyo!
